Reading opens worlds of possibility, and at CFEL, we're committed to nurturing young readers from the very beginning. Our new Enhanced Early Literacy Program provides age-appropriate, engaging experiences that build the foundation for lifelong learning and a genuine love of books.

Age-Appropriate Approach

Our literacy program recognizes that children develop reading readiness skills at different rates and through various pathways. We've designed activities and experiences that meet children where they are developmentally, ensuring that every interaction with books and language is positive and meaningful.

Infants and Toddlers (6 weeks - 2.5 years)

  • Daily story time with interactive books and songs
  • Sensory book exploration with different textures and sounds
  • Language-rich conversations during daily routines
  • Introduction to print concepts through environmental print

Preschoolers (2.5 - 4 years)

  • Phonics activities through games and songs
  • Letter recognition and formation practice
  • Story comprehension discussions and dramatic play
  • Beginning writing experiences with meaningful contexts

School Age (4+ years)

  • Guided reading groups with leveled texts
  • Creative writing workshops and storytelling
  • Research projects using age-appropriate resources
  • Peer reading partnerships and book clubs

Family Partnership

We know that families are children's first teachers, which is why our literacy program extends beyond our centers. We provide families with resources, strategies, and book lending libraries to support reading at home.

Monthly family literacy workshops offer practical tips for reading with children, and our 'Books on the Go' program ensures that families have access to high-quality children's literature regardless of their circumstances.

Measuring Success

While we celebrate the joy and engagement children show during literacy activities, we also track developmental milestones to ensure our program is effective. Teachers use observation-based assessments to document progress and adjust programming to meet individual needs.

Research shows that children who develop strong early literacy skills are more likely to succeed academically and maintain a positive relationship with learning throughout their lives. Our Enhanced Early Literacy Program is designed to give every child this crucial foundation.
